Jack O Lantern Festival by The Talking Trails

Fall fair and festival season is upon us and there is no better place in country to enjoy the bounty of autumn colors with warm apple cider than New England. I know I am biased but if you have ever seen the changing colors of leaves , those myriads of yellows , oranges and reds , you will know why. Along with apple pickings and pumpkins, fall also brings plenty of fall festivals. One such festival that I happened to visit this weekend was Jack O Lantern Festival.

What is Jack O lantern ?

Jack O lantern is a fall tradition at Roger Williams Park zoo in Rhode Island that features a breathtaking display of thousands of illuminated jack-o-lanterns aka pumpkins, in the Zoo’s Wetlands Trail. These illuminated pumpkins bring the intricate carving designs of the dedicated workers at Passion for Pumpkins – the founders and creators of the Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular to life.

Is Jack-O-Lantern all about pumpkins?

Workers at Passion for pumpkins try really hard every year to make this spectacular event better every year. This year theme is titled “The People’s Choice ” featuring subjects that people have loved throughout the past 27 years of shows. Walking through the trail will definitely take you down to the memory lane as you will see scenes staged from the Golden Age of Hollywood , “Phantom of the Opera” and Charles Darwin’s trip to the Galapagos Islands. From Dr. Frankenstein to Captain Jack Sparrow, every scene is beautifully staged and shows
the hard work of people. Grab a pumpkin Ale or hot chocolate from the main entrance and I assure you that you will are bound to get amazed.

Are kids welcome in this festival?

Jack O Lantern is a family friendly festival where kids are bound to have fun. Not only are the carvings fascinating , the organizers have made light and image projections , spooky fog coupled with haunting music and laughter to give mysterious touch to the trail. Kids will find their favorites Halloween scenes carved on pumpkins and a glaring “The Laughing Tree” waiting for them at the end of trail.

Is it easy to find parking?

Zoo has a huge parking lot but it gets pretty packed on the weekend. You can either try to find a street parking or you can park in the parking lot.
